Who We Are

Nyamboyo Technical School (NTS) is a community organization supported by dedicated local citizens involved in every aspect of our operations. Students and volunteers worldwide have also joined us, donating their time and expertise.

NTS is led by founder, Jones Obiria, and a talented team of teachers who are also local entrepreneurs and business owners.

A regional leader in masonry and carpentry, Paul Sangara is also a career educator and Nyamboyo Village Elder, skilled in working with at-risk youth and their families.

Silas Matagaro

A self-made entrepreneur and professional examiner for the NITA exam, Silas Matagaro is dedicated to breaking the community poverty cycle through teaching tailoring as a professional skill.

our Community

Nyamboyo Technical School is a community-founded organization and the support and guidance of local leaders has been central to the school’s development and growth.

Our Leadership

As a successful young professional in Nairobi, Jones Obiria felt called to return to his home village and to provide the same opportunity for education he was gifted as a child. Read more about Jones’ story and his journey to create NTS.

Our Students

We know that over 65% of the teens and young adults in Nyamboyo Village live at or below the poverty level, and that young women are especially at risk of teen marriage and pregnancy.

NTS students are teens 14-20 years old who come from Nyamboyo Village families living at or below the international poverty line ($2.15/day) and are motivated to move themselves and their families out of poverty. Meet some of our students and read more about their challenges and their success at NTS!

Our Volunteers:

NTS has recruited the expertise of volunteers worldwide to design first-rate educational programs for our students. Volunteers experts have helped with projects that include designing a nutrition program, recording audio tracks to accompany our new ESL program, and developing a teen penpal program.
