Electrical Wiring

We are building a skilled workforce for the electrical sector.  Our students graduate as professionally skilled electricians certified by the Kenyan National Industrial Training Authority (NITA).  They are qualified to work as employees in both large and small electrical firms and as entrepreneurs, building their own businesses.

Career paths after graduation include:

  • Commercial electrician – working on structures for public use including restaurants, hospitals, schools, malls, and stores
  • Industrial electrician
  • Domestic electrician
  • Electrician for building contractor
  • In-house electrician for private industry
  • Assistant electrician for private industry
  • Assistant electrician for public facilities
  • Transmission-line electrician
  • Electrical winder
  • Contractor for annual maintenance/repair of residential, institutional, and commercial buildings

Electrical Wiring Year One

Students in Year One learn the foundational skills necessary for working professionally and safely in the electrical field.  Because safety is the priority in every aspect of this profession, the first year focuses on teaching and drilling correct working methods, as well as safety and health practices.

Electrical Wiring Year Two

Students continue learning the occupational skills of the electrical trade with a focus on installing wiring systems, fixing wiring enclosures, and carrying out basic testing for electrical circuits. They gain and develop skills for the installation of a wide variety of wiring systems and enclosures, including domestic, commercial and industrial.  During this year, particular emphasis is put on specialty trades in the industry as outlined below.  Students select a specialty at the end of the year.

Electrical Wiring Year Three

Students select their specializations from domestic, commercial, and industrial electrics.  As a group, they continue their general electrical education.  In smaller groups, they train in their specialties, learning the trade-specific skills essential for employment. During this year, they also develop practical skills for the inspection, testing and commissioning, and fault diagnosis and rectification in electrical installations.  They learn a wide variety of installation skills including installing boxes for switches and sockets, installing distribution boards and main switches, installing cables from distribution boards to switches, and installing light/fan points and socket outlets.
